GUEST REVIEW: Erborian BB Crème au ginseng SPF 25

Carly reviews an all-natural sheer makeup BB cream by Erborian Korean Skin Therapy

A 3-in-1 total sheer makeup cream for a ‘baby skin’ effect

‘Baby’ your skin with this beautifying blend, designed to leave your complexion looking totally reborn. Based on age-old Korean medicinal herbs, the formula evens out skin tone and conceals imperfections while moisturizing, nourishing and delivering SPF 25 UVA/UVB protection with Korean Ginseng, licorice, ginger and titanium dioxide. But what made our testers at HQ refuse to surrender their samples was the way it left their skin with a velvety, matte, ‘nearly newborn’ finish for 12 hours. 1.5 oz

  • Evens out skin tone to conceal all imperfections
  • Moisturizes and nourishes skin with age-defying ingredients
  • Leaves skin with a baby-soft finish

JENNI SAYS:  That last time I saw Carly, our lovely re-occuring guest writer for BFF Beauty, we chatted up a storm about all things skin care & beauty (of course.)  Amidst our beauty product related conversation, I was utterly stunned to find out that she had never tried (or even heard of) BB creams before!  But after my initial shock wore off, I realized that it wasn’t that surprising considering the whole BB cream trend is relatively new and Carly is strictly an all-natural beauty product consumer – which is why we love her and also why she hadn’t tried a BB cream before, it’s nearly impossible to find all-natural BB creams out there!  So a few weeks after our conversation I spotted this BB Cream from Erborian at one of my favorite beauty product outlets, the Bliss Spa in Chicago, and when I saw “All-Natural” on its’ labeling, I just had to purchase it for Carly so she could review it for you!

As you can see in the picture above,  I was so intrigued by this product, I just had to try it for myself as well!  I ended up loving it, but I knew the true test would be from Carly, our very own all-natural & organic skin care expert ‘tester.’  If a product passes the ‘Carly Test‘ you know it’s a good & healthy product  that won’t irritate sensitive skin.  So without further ado…

Beauty BFF Guest Writer, Carly

CARLY SAYS:  You may remember a while back BFF Beauty Founder, Kristin reviewed BB creams “Korean vs. Drug Store Brands;” (review here)  At the time that I read Kristin’s review I was quite intrigued, but really had no concept of what a “BB Creme” was and so therefore it went over my head a bit…but it has remained in the back of my mind as something to try ever since…so here goes my review:

I tried Erborian BB Crème Au Ginseng (SPF 25) in a sort of leisurely, “not sure what to expect” fashion. First of all, I had only heard of “BB” crème from Kristin’s earlier review, but was still at a loss as to what it is– and was absolutely taken off guard, and stunned at how unbelievable this product is.  I have been enlightened!! Where have I been all this time? Or more appropriate; where has BB crème been hiding all this time? (In case you are wondering “BB”, as Kristin also noted, stands for “blemish balm”).

The first thing I noticed (as well as my husband) was that I look (at least) five years younger when I wear this stuff!  I also noticed that it blends into my skin amazingly—giving the impression that I have no foundation/make-up on—it really looks incredibly natural. I had to try it at least four times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, or just having a really great skin day, before I could completely believe how amazing Erborian BB Crème Au Ginseng is. My conclusion: YES, it truly is an amazing product—it has proven itself over and over, as I now use it every day and have already ordered more!

After realizing this stuff is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, I was intrigued and wanted to learn everything I could about the product. So off I went into the deep Google forest and was overwhelmed by the amount of information I found on various brands of “BB” crème. There are at least fifteen different brands—(I am sure there are more). Then down another rabbit hole I went, and found out a little about the history of BB crème…It seems that it started out as something doctors used to treat laser surgery scars and damage. Realizing how amazing the product formula was, Korean cosmetic companies began making their own unique formulas and offering their version of BB crème to the general population. From there, it exploded into other Asian and European markets, finally making it’s way to the U.S. Kristin’s review also gives a great overview of the product history, benefits, and various brands.

Some of the general benefits of using BB crème are the perfect coverage (you look like a China Doll), it doesn’t clog pores, has healing and refining properties, promotes skin regeneration, most have substantial UV protection, and some formulas provide anti-wrinkle and skin-lightening benefits.

Erborian BB Crème Au Ginseng in particular is designed to make your skin look like a baby’s bum, and totally reborn (and it truly does).  According to the “Bliss” Web site, where Erborian BB Crème is sold; “The formula is based on age-old Korean medicinal herbs, and evens out skin tone and conceals imperfections while moisturizing, nourishing and delivering SPF 25 UVA/UVB protection with Korean Ginseng, licorice, ginger and titanium dioxide.” It is also claimed to last for 12 hours. While I have yet to leave it on for 12 hours—it has lasted around 8 good hours for me.

The only thing that is a bit tricky with Erborian BB Crème is that it doesn’t completely blend with my skin tone (and as far as I can tell, they don’t offer a variety of shades to match different skin tones). It takes my skin tone about two shades lighter than it is naturally, but I have found that blending it with other foundations, and/or dusting a light powder over the top, once it is applied seems to work, and the BB Crème “baby skin” effect, does not seem to be bothered by these two adaptations. And, like I mentioned earlier, I did order another tube—so the skin tone problem is not dramatic enough to stop me from ordering more. Lastly, if I had to use one simple word to describe this product it would be; “Magic!”

Erborian BB Crème au ginseng SPF 25 (1.5 oz) is available at or for $48 and in a Travel Size (.5 oz) for $19

  1. Hi – I was just wondering what shade Jenni’s wearing in her picture. I’ve found that they sell this in Australia and am wanting to try it, but there are just 2 shades. Thanks, Clare

  2. Hi Clare! As far as I know Erborian offers 3 shades of BB Creme: Original, Dore & Light. The “Original” is the one that we reviewed as well as the one I was wearing in the picture. It doesn’t actually say ‘Original’ on the bottle, it just says “BB CRÈME AU GINSENG”. The other two shades are named: “BB CRÈME AU GINSENG DORE” and “BB crème Light” – hope this helps!
I’m excited for you to try it, I think you will love it!
