Jenni Reviews one of her picks for Summer 2012 must-have beauty products
JOSIE SAYS: “I wanted to create the first ever powder foundation that uses the same custom-match, moisturizing coverage technology of my Matchmaker Serum Foundation. Whether used as a medium coverage foundation or as a setting powder, the Matchmaker Powder Foundation is perfectly portable so you can take it everywhere,” says Josie. “And because it adjusts to your unique and changing skin shade, it can be used year-round as a one-step, go-to product.”
WHAT IT IS: A pressed powder formula that delivers a hydrating, shine-free finish. Achieve silky, even-toned skin effortlessly with Josie Maran’s Matchmaker Powder Foundation SPF 20. Developed with Josie’s lush, restorative ingredient, Argan Oil, Matchmaker Powder Foundation revitalizes and balances skin, while erasing imperfections for flawless, nourishing and long-wearing coverage.
WHAT IT DOES: This customized, one-step complexion-perfecting foundation is formulated with Matchmaker’s signature chameleon pigments and infused with 100 percent pure argan oil to balance, hydrate, and nourish the skin. This pressed powder instantly adjusts to match your unique and changing natural skin tone and applies easily with the included dual-sided sponge. This talc-free powder goes on sheer and builds to medium coverage. The skin mattifiers absorb oil and the soft focus finish leaves skin velvety-smooth and protected.

Before I get into my actual review, I’d like to provide some background information, since the Company is relatively new. The Josie Maran brand was founded by supermodel and former Maybelline spokeswoman Josie Maran.
Direct from the company website…
I have never really jumped on the ‘hype bandwagon’ when a former model puts out a cosmetic line, however I thought Maran’s line was worth taking a closer look, especially since I appreciate her passion for natural beauty and caring for the environment “Every element, from the packaging to the makeup shades, is a reflection of her unique sensibility, which is always dedicated to social and environmental responsibility.” I also love the fact that her inspiration to be 100% natural & organic comes from becoming Mother herself (she has a young daughter and I believe she is expecting her second child.)
While some people may consider argan oil to be nothing more than the latest fad, it would be hard for such skeptics to deny its’ beneficial properties like antioxidants and essential lipids. Argan oil is derived from the kernels of argan tree. It has a high proportion of mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids, and it’s also rich in vitamin E, phenols, and carotenes…all things BFF beauty girls love!
I have to just say that I’m in love with this sponge! It has two textures, one on either side which I found are great to use separately for wet and dry application. It’s Fabulous! In fact, this sponge is quite the multi-tasker, here are the official instructions:
- To apply, begin with the “smooth” side of the sponge applicator, and firmly sweep it across the powder palette to pick up a generous amount of product.
- Press and roll the sponge onto the face until skin is lightly covered.
- Finally, use the “velvet” side to lightly buff until finish is even and smooth. Repeat for increased coverage.
- Matchmaker Powder Foundation can also be used for touch-ups – use the “velvet” side only to buff the powder on top of freshly-applied liquid foundation, or use throughout the day to reset any previously-applied makeup.
The foundation looks a little crazy at first sight, due to the sheer white powder and beige/tan color pigments making up the unique speckled design.
So why is THIS powder foundation one of my summer 2012 Must-Have products you ask? Well, even though the SPF is only rated a 20, which is low for the summer, I’m not planning on wearing it to the beach. I will be wearing mine on weekdays, when I’m only outside in the Sun during my walk to and from work. The color matching (that actually works) is a fantastic bonus, since the color on my face will be changing as I typically get a little tan from the weekend.
To sum it all up, I am loving this self-adjusting powder foundation for a few simple reasons…
