Top 3 Masks for Oily & Acne-prone Skin

Jenni reviews her top three masks for oily skin

#1 – DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask

**Top Choice for treating Acne Breakouts**

I read about this mask in a magazine about a month ago, it had won a 1st place award for acne treating masks. I also found numerous glowing reviews from customers on various websites…so a couple weeks ago I decided to give it a try. I picked it up at Sephora and I’m so glad I did… It’s AMAZING!!! Cleared my skin up right away.  After only the first treatment, I immediately noticed a difference in pore size, clarity and softness. But the most astonishing thing that happened after using it was – ALL my redness was gone! You know the little red bumps that surround larger acne boils – they disappeared completely.  And if that wasn’t good enough, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that a mask this effective didn’t dry my skin out. I later discovered (through research) that Sulfur actually has healing and soothing properties in addition to its’ acne-fighting ingredients.

Product Description:  Sulfur Therapeutic Mask is a clarifying treatment armed with the antiseptic properties of eucalyptus, the anti-inflammatory properties of aloe, and the absorbent power of purified clays.

What it is formulated to do:  Banish excess oil, minimize pores, and help prevent and heal blemishes with this weekly-use mask. It is an excellent solution for breakouts on the chest, back, and face, and multitasks as an overnight spot treatment. The potent blend of sulfur, eucalyptus oil, aloe vera gel, and bentonite and kaolin clays works to unclog pores, promote clarity, and regulate oiliness.

FINAL THOUGHT: DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask is a triple threat – It calms, soothes, and clears! Great product.  I would definitely recommend this mask if you are looking for an addition to your acne treatment plan. I say addition because more serious dermatitis conditions will require stronger treatments, but that goes for all acne-treatment masks – they should be added to your routine not supplemented.  The only drawback is the smell…its Sulfur, so there’s really no way around it…just hold your nose ladies because it’s worth it!

#2 – Arcona Tea Tree Mask

Tea Tree Oil is an antiseptic anti-microbial ingredient that works wonders on all skin types, and especially those with problem skin. The Arcona Tea Tree Mask utilizes this ingredient to clarify and detoxify decongested skin, oily skin or acne-prone skin.  When I first applied this mask, it felt refreshingly cool and almost like spearmint was put on my face. As the time went by it felt more and more relaxing, I could actually feel the cool tea tree oil calming my skin down.  Afterwards my skin was left feeling incredibly soft, very smooth and perfectly hydrated.  This mask can be applied two to three times per week, for 15-20 minutes each time.

Product Description:  Cleansing, purifying mask detoxifies and refines skin texture. Exfoliate, decongest and diminish pores with antibacterial salicylic acid and tea tree extract.

  • Detoxify and reduce breakouts with sulphur and grapefruit extract.
  • Heal and calm skin with anti-inflammatory mint balm, allantoin and lavender extracts.
  • Enzymatic-based ingredients in ARCONA products include high concentrations of antioxidants, plant lipids and extracts, sea vegetables, essential oils, vitamins and minerals.

ARCONA products do not contain petrochemicals, binders or fillers, chemical stabilizers, parabens, sodium lauryl sulphates, perfumes, dyes, or any other caustic, toxic ingredients.

FINAL THOUGHT: What I was most impressed with after using this mask, was how soft my face felt.  It’s hard to find a clearing mask that also hydrates your skin. Arcona’s Tea Tree Mask is definitely worth checking out if your looking for an all-natural hydrating & clearing mask.

#3 – Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask

I can tolerate most products but I do get the occasional redness in my cheeks and/or dry spots during the winter months. So about 6 months ago I began to search for a ‘clearing mask’ that is suited for both oily skin and sensitive skin.  After tons of research and consumer reviews I decided to give the Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask a go – and I am so glad that I did!! This mask delivers what it promises, clearing my hormonal excess oil and calming the redness on my cheek area very well.  I applied a thin layer to my chin (which had recently broke out with a few blemishes & red spots) and left it on over night to really test the product. Sure enough most of the blemishes were gone and the redness had calmed down about 80%.

Product Description: The Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask gets super results and is Astara’s most popular face mask. Ultra purification herbal and plant substances with natural therapeutic anti-bacterial, anti-microbial benefits, deeply extract and purify pores while nourishing and strengthening the skin’s natural resistance. Excellent for most skin problems, especially blemishes. Use as overnight dot therapy on breakouts. The Blue Flame Mask works great as a preventive for skin problems, and generally to simply purify the skin.  Recommended for skin problems, excessive oiliness, and for anyone living in a city, or polluted environment.

FINALTHOUGHT: I would definitely recommend this to someone who suffers from sensitive skin or rosacea due to its’ ability to “clear & calm” your skin. It is a bit pricey and you have to order it online (unless you live near a Spa that carries the brand) … but a little goes a long way, definitely worth it!!
